Once, there was a shugenja whose understanding of elemental magic was so great that none since have been his equal. His name was Isawa, founder of the Elemental Council and it was said that thunder ran through his veins. Isawa steered the Phoenix away from the blood magic they had practiced for centuries, teaching them to harness the power of the elemental spirits. Isawa believed that it was the nature of the world to change, and that one must change with it or be destroyed.
As a wedding gift for his daughter Akiko, Isawa intended to create an intelligent magical construct that would grant all creatures a greater understanding of the elemental spirits. Before the spell could be completed, the First Day of Thunder came. Isawa joined Shinsei and six other heroes on a journey to the Shadowlands, where he was slain in battle with Fu Leng. Despite the best efforts of Isawa’s students, his magical construct, which came to be known as the Last Wish, remained unstable. Some shugenja who touched it gained limitless power, only to be driven insane and destroyed. Some were consumed by the Wish, offering their bodies, minds, and souls in eternal unity with the magical construct. The Wish seemed unaware of the pain and misery it caused, seeking only to learn more about the world in which it had been created. Only those without the gift of magic could wield the Wish with no risk of awakening its power. The samurai of the Shiba swore to keep it safe.
For centuries the Wish has been left untouched in an abandoned temple deep in the mountains. It has spent endless nights analyzing what it has learned, best it could serve to bring understanding between human and kami. It knows that it could fulfill its destiny if given the chance. Even a samurai, one without any magic to speak of, could harness the Wish’s power in its current state. However, the Wish has slowly succumbed to despair, certain that it will never be allowed to fulfill the mysterious destiny intended by its creator. It knows all it needs is one chance to prove itself, one worthy soul who understands its grief, sorrow, and ambition.
That day is soon coming. One man has the strength to command the Wish and the willingness to use it. When the Wish returns, its wielder will seek to spread its gifts to those who would rule the Empirethe Four Winds. One of the Winds will be granted a fraction of the power of the Last Wish, a smaller piece of the larger construct. With this individual’s help the Wish may find understanding and fulfill its destiny.
Will the power of the Last Wish change the world or destroy it?
You will decide.
Which side will you choose?
