4th edition adaptation
This version of the Way of the Open Hand for 4th edition uses the rules for katas. The differences with the original katas is that each requires an emphasis of jiujutsu.
As normal katas, schools of the same clans or faction (in case of the Brotherhood of Shinsei) can learn them as if the relevant ring was one rank lower. Those katas can be learned by any school, not only bushi schools. The martial arts katas are differents from normal katas in the sense than you can have more than one active at a time : you can have all the katas of a same martial art active at the same time (they are in fact considered one kata). You need to buy all the katas of a martial art chain in order : you can’t bought the second one if you haven’t the first. There is no skill requirements, but it works better if they are as 3 / 5 / 7.

Touching the void

Effect : when making unarmed attacks, you can add your meditation rank to your TN, from the initiative stage to the end of the round.
*Kobo Ichi-kai :*
Break the bones
Ring / mastery : earth 3
Requirements : jiujutsu (Kobo Ichi-kai), lore : Shadowland.
Schools : Hida bushi, Hiruma bushi.
Effect : during a grapple, you can add your earth ring rank to your damage.
Wearing down the mountain
Ring / mastery : earth 4
Requirements : jiujutsu (Kobo Ichi-kai), lore : Shadowland.
Schools : Hida bushi, Hiruma bushi.
Effect : if you makes a successfull knockdown manoeuvre with an unarmed attack, you can spend a void point and makes a contested earth roll with your target. If you succeed, your opponent is now fatigued for a number of rounds equal to your earth ring.
Tear-giving
Ring / mastery : earth
Requirements : jiujutsu (Kobo Ichi-kai), lore : Shadowland.
Schools : Hida bushi, Hiruma bushi.
Effect : if you makes a successfull unarmed attack with 2 raises on the called shot manoeuvre on an opponent who is prone, you can spend a void point and makes a consteted earth roll with your target to blind her. The blind conditionnal effect can be removed like the stunned conditionnal effect.
*Sagasu-do :*
Banishing fist
Ring / mastery : earth 4
Requirements : jiujutsu (sagasu-do), lore : shadowland, spellcraft.
Schools : Kuni witchhunter, Kuni shugenja.
Effect : when you are making an unarmed attack, each raise you make on the called shot manoeuvre inflict a + 3 TN increase on the spellcasting roll of your target. This effect only last until the end of the turn.
*Mizu-do :*

Requirements : jiujutsu (mizu-do) or perform : dance (mizu-do)
Schools : Kakita artisan, Doji courtier or Doji magistrate.
Effect : when making an unarmed attack, you can use your perception instead of your agility. You can use your dance skill to makes unarmed attacks. You can use your perception instead of your agility when making a dance roll.
Dragon claw

Requirements : jiujutsu (mizu-do) or perform : dance (mizu-do)
Schools : Kakita artisan, Doji courtier or Doji magistrate.
Effect : when you are making an unarmed attack, the disarm manoeuvre requires one less raise.
Hammer of earth

Effect : when you are making an unarmed attack, the feint manoeuvre only requires one raise.
*Resplendent Crane Yarijutsu : *
The crane soars

Requirements : spears (yari)
Schools : Daidoji iron warrior.
Effect : when using a yari, you can use your agility instead of your reflexes for your initiative and you add your fire ring to your damage.
*Kaze-do :*
Air dances over seas
Ring / mastery : air 3
Requirements : jiujutsu (kaze-do) or staves (kaze-do)
Schools : Togashi tatooed man, Mirumoto bushi.
Effect : you can use your reflexes instead of your agility when making unarmed or staves attacks.
Thunder shakes the heavens
Ring / mastery : air 4
Requirements : jiujutsu (kaze-do) or staves (kaze-do)
Schools : Togashi tatooed man, Mirumoto bushi.
Effect : while making an unarmed or staves attacks, the knockdown manoeuvre require one less raise.
Water washes around stones
Ring / mastery : air 4
Requirements : jiujutsu (kaze-do) or staves (kaze-do)
Schools : Togashi tatooed man, Mirumoto bushi.
Effect : when you are not wearing an armor, and you are unarmed or having a staves weapon, you gain a reduction equal to your air ring.
*Tsuchi-do :*

Requirements : jiujutsu (Tsuchi-do)
Schools : Togashi tatooed man.
Effect : you can keep an additionnal damage dice in a grapple.
*Magari-yarijutsu :*
Piercing strike
Ring / mastery : water 3
Requirements : spears (magari-yarijutsu, magari-yari or yari see with your GM if the magari-yari requiers its own emphasis or if yari will do).
Schools : Matsu berserker.
Effect : when in the full attack stance and making an attack with a magari-yari, you can add your water ring to your damage if you make one raise or more for the increased damage manoeuvre.

Requirements : spears (magari-yarijutsu, magari-yari or yari see with your GM if the magari-yari requiers its own emphasis or if yari will do).
Schools : Matsu berserker.
Effect : after each time you make an attack with a magari-yari in the full attack stance, you increase your initiative by 1.
Strike from heaven
Ring / mastery : fire 4
Requirements : spears (magari-yarijutsu, magari-yari or yari see with your GM if the magari-yari requiers its own emphasis or if yari will do).
Schools : Matsu berserker.
Effect : when making an attack with a magari-yari while in the full attack stance, the extra attack manoeuvre requires one less raise.

Opening blow

Schools : Akodo bushi.
Effect : when fighting with a sword in one hand and a free hand, you can make the extra attack manoeuvre for 2 less raises. But if you do so, the second attack must be an unarmed attack.

Requirements : jiujutsu (improvised weapons, drunken mantis style)
Schools : Yoritomo bushi, Tsuruchi archer.
Effect : when you are prone, you negate all the penalties of the conditionnal effect. You can voluntary felt prone while being in the defense stance.
Drunkard finds koku
Ring / mastery : water 4
Requirements : jiujutsu (improvised weapons, drunken mantis style)
Schools : Yoritomo bushi, Tsuruchi archer.
Effect : when you are prone and making unarmed or improvised weapons attacks, you gain a reduction equal to your water ring.
Drunk loses his sandal

Effect : when making unarmed or improvised weapons attacks, the feint manoeuvre only requires one raise.

Effect : when making an attack with an improved weapon, the disarm and the feint manoeuvre only requires one raise each.

Requirements : Shiba bushi, Asako henshin, Asako loremaster.
Schools : Shiba bushi, Asako henshin, Asako loremaster.
Effect : you can use your void ring instead of your agility when making unarmed attacks.
Two, avoid violence

Requirements : jiujutsu (Kinenhi), meditation
Schools : Shiba bushi, Asako henshin, Asako loremaster.
Effect : when making unarmed attacks or being unarmed in the defense or full defense stance, and wearing a light armor or something ligher, you gain a reduction equal to your void ring.
Three, follow the way of courtesy

Requirements : jiujutsu (Kinenhi), meditation
Schools : Shiba bushi, Asako henshin, Asako loremaster.
Effect : when making unarmed attack, if you takes 2 raises on the called shot manoeuvre, you can stun your opponent if you hit him and win a contested roll of your void against his earth.
*Kukan-do :*

Requirements : jiujutsu (Kukan-do), meditation.
Schools : Asako Henshin, Agasha shugenja.
Effect : you can use your void ring instead of your agility to makes unarmed attack, and you can use your void ring instead of your strength when grappling.
*Taijutsu :*

Requirements : jiujutsu (Taijutsu) or knives (tanto, taijutsu)
Schools : Shosuro Shinobi, Shosuro actor, Bayushi bushi.
Effect : when making an unarmed or a tanto / aiguchi attack, you can make a called shot to increase your TN by 5.
Into shadow drive them

Requirements : jiujutsu (Taijutsu) or knives (tanto, taijutsu)
Schools : Shosuro Shinobi, Shosuro actor, Bayushi bushi.
Effect : when making an unarmed or a tanto / aiguchi attack, if you make the increased damage manoeuvre, your damage is increased by 1 for each raise toward the manoeuvre.

Requirements : jiujutsu (Taijutsu) or knives (tanto, taijutsu)
Schools : Shosuro Shinobi, Shosuro actor, Bayushi bushi.
Effect : when making an unarmed or a tanto / aiguchi attack, if you make the increased damage manoeuvre, your damage is increased by 1 for each raise toward the manoeuvre, cumulative with the previous kata of the chain.
*Mamurojutsu :*

Schools : Bayushi bushi, Shosuro actor.
Effect : when making an unarmed attack, if you use the feint manoeuvre, the disarm and the knockdown manoeuvre requires one less raise for your next unarmed attack, within air ring rounds and against the same opponent.

Schools : Daigotsu bushi, Dark Moto bushi.
Effect : when making unarmed attacks using your blackened claws, you can use your shadowland taint instead of your strength for your damage. You no longer have a willpower roll to resist using your claws when you have this kata active. The extra attack manoeuvre requires one less raise when making unarmed attacks with your claws.

Effect : you can use your void instead of your agility when making unarmed attacks, and disarm manoeuvre while making unarmed attacks requires one less raise.

Effect : when you are unarmed, your TN cannot be reduced by any means as long as you are not being immobilised.

Musubi
Ring / mastery : a ring of your choice 4
Requirements : jiujutsu (minor clan martial art).
Schools : minor clan bushi school.
Effect : choose a manoeuvre, when making unarmed attacks it requires one less raise to perform. Choose one of the following : TN, attack roll, damage roll, initiative : add twice your rank in the ring related to this kata to the stat you choose when making unarmed attacks.
Example :
Sarujutsu (Monkey clan martial art) : ring : water, manoeuvre : disarm, stat : initiative.
Flying Hare kick (Hare clan martial art) : ring : fire, manoeuvre : extra attack, stat : attack roll.
